CHRISTIE NAMES TRANSPORTATION PICKS: SIMPSON FOR DOT, WEINSTEIN FOR NJ TRANSIT
Governor-elect Chris Christie yesterday announced his nominations for two key transportation agencies. James Simpson, former head of the Federal Transit Administration, will join the Christie cabinet as Transportation Commissioner. Nominated to lead NJ Transit as its executive director was former state Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein. Among the challenges Simpson will face is the need to replenish the state's Transportation Trust Fund without raising the gas tax, a promise the Governor-elect made during the campaign. If Weinstein's nomination is approved by NJ Transit's Board of Directors, he will oversee the country's third-largest transit agency. NJ Transit operates commuter train and bus systems that transport millions of people annually. Click on the link below to read the article.
